On June 11th we welcomed Lina Avramidou from We Make Books to lead our Japanese Bookbinding workshop, funded by the Big Lottery Fund. Our workshops have been focused on photography throughout this year, but we’ve been looking at photography in different ways, sometimes using a camera and sometimes without.
Did you ever keep a scrapbook? Perhaps printed photos from the days of film photography, or keeping scraps from magazines for inspiration. In this workshop we learnt how to make a Japanese style handmade books, followed by a hardbound case. All whilst discussing how we store and share our memories. So much of our lives is online these days — the way that we connect, communicate with each other, and store our images. Data for our digital cameras is pretty cheap now and it’s tempting to take thousands of photos and videos without ever really looking at them again.
Sometimes treating yourself to a new book, or even better making one yourself, gives you the inspiration to start printing your photos or keeping things that are special for you. Thanks Lina for the great workshop!
